To educate in the field of improvisation, theatre, and being yourself onstage to achieve greatness.

Why an Improv Theater?

Most people think of improvisation as a way to goof off with friends. However, it is much more than that. Youth are able to “goof off” with their friends, but it is also a way of expressing oneself through theatre. OTC Comedy’s goal is to improve the community through art, education, and encouraging success and greatness within our lives.

As a non-profit company, OTC has been educating in improvisation and theatre since 2004. We have a weekly show at our local theatre where people of all ages, races and genders can get together and have a great time, while escaping the stress and pressures of the world outside. OTC also offers donation-based classes in improvisation to anyone who wishes to join. All of our classes encourage you to “yes, and” onstage AND offstage in your day to day life.

Meet the Team

  • Wendy Penrod

    ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

    Wendy is a founding member of OTC Comedy and the current Artistic Director. She has been studying and performing improvisational theatre for over 15 years. She is also a member of Pawn Takes Queen and has performed internationally. Wendy co-founded both the Red Rocks Improv Festival and Ye Olde Improv Competition. She is currently one of OTC Comedy's instructors and has taught improv to people of all ages for over 10 years.

  • TJ Penrod

    MANAGING DIRECTOR

    TJ is the Managing Director of OTC Comedy and helped to found OTC in Cedar City. He has his degree in acting and directing from Southern Utah University and has studied improv with some of the best the business has to offer. He is a member of the international touring group Pawn Takes Queen and a part of Tapestry, a 4 person improv group that does festivals. You can find TJ enjoying the outdoors in his free time.

  • Ryan "Rev" McLean

    MARKETING DIRECTOR

    Rev is an improviser and writer from Cedar City, Utah. He has been improvising since the 9th grade and joined OTC Comedy in 2005 as a full-time cast member. He also travels all over with Pawn Takes Queen, having performed in LA, Chicago, Dublin, Denver, and more. He is currently the Marketing Director, merchandise manager, and website coordinator for OTC.

  • "Bald Nate" Maclee

    HOUSE MANAGER

    Nathan is the Co-House manager and co-teaches OTC’s classes. He has been improvising for 22 years and is lucky to have been performing with OTC Comedy for awhile now. When he’s not onstage he can be frequently found reading comic books. Down in St. George, he is also a member of the SoU comedy players and The Mulligan Family Reunion. 

  • Caleb Alexander

    HOUSE MANAGER/TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

    Caleb is an actor/ improviser from Cedar City, Utah. He has been improvising since 2018, when he joined Southern Utah University’s comedy club “Thin Line Comedy,” soon after becoming the president. He then joined OTC Comedy as their Sound/Lights operator before transitioning to the full-time cast. He is currently the Technical Director and Co-Front of House manager for OTC.
